Founded in San Diego, CA, in 2024 by Christian Winters and his fraternal twin brother, Zach, Motiv was born of Christian’s experience in technology, data, and regulatory compliance—and his passion for fitness —and Zach’s expertise in engineering, product development, and entrepreneurship.
Inspired by James Clear’s book Atomic Habits, Motiv embraces the idea that small, consistent changes lead to powerful transformations. The app was designed to make wellness goals more engaging by combining monetary incentives with the motivational boost of social accountability. A story from Atomic Habits perfectly encapsulates this approach: a user connected their alarm clock to their Twitter account, sending an automatic tweet offering to pay others if they failed to wake up on time. This blend of financial stakes and public accountability embodies the kind of creative, habit-forming strategies Motiv aims to deliver.
