General

What is Motiv?

Motiv is the mobile app that lets you bet with your friends on who has more steps - with real money and bragging rights on the line.

How does it work?

Create a challenge by clicking the "+" button on the lower navigational pane. You can set the challenge name, duration (start and end dates), buy-in amount, payout structure, and more. At the end of the challenge, the participants with the highest scores will win money - depending on the challenge structure. Note that you must have enough money in your account balance to cover the buy-in in order to create the challenge. After you create the challenge, you can invite your friends via text, link, or adding them to the challenge directly in the app. A 10% fee is taken from each challenge pot.

Data

How does Motiv track my data?

Motiv pulls step and walking/running distance from your Apple Health application. You must grant Motiv permission to access Apple Health data for this to work. You were prompted upon sign-up, but can manage these permissions in your Apple Health app

How often does my data refresh?

Your data refreshes automatically every time you open the Motiv app. A timestamp is recorded on the leaderboard showing when each participant last loaded their data

Can Motiv track data from other devices?

Motiv currently only pulls data that is recorded from Apple Health. If it's not in Apple Health, we don't have it. Many wearable devices, like Garmin or Whoop, can be configured to write data to Apple Health so that it will count for your Motiv challenge

How long do I have to join a challenge?

Challenge invitees may join the challenge until midnight on the start date. If a challenge starts January 1st, invitees will have until ~11:59 pm on Jan 1st to join that challenge.

When will I receive winnings from a challenge?

Challenges allow up to 1 additional day (24 hrs) to 'settle' after the end date before they are considered finalized. If a challenge ends at mindight on January 2nd, participants will have until midnight on January 3rd to open the app and load their final data. If participants do not load their data before the settlement deadline, their most recently loaded data will be considered as their final value

Why can't I withdraw my free credits?

The free $ account credits received must be transacted in a valid challenge before it can be withdrawn. Cancelled, rejected, or expired will not count as valid challenges

How do I refer my friends?

Motiv users are encouraged to invite their friends to try the app. You can use the button at the top of the home screen to generate a link and invite your friends. Once they sign up and successfully deposit money in their account, you will be credited with a $5 referral bonus. Each user is limited to a maximum of 5 referral bonuses (up to $25 each)

I referred my friend and didn't receive $5

Your friend must successfully deposit money in their account before the referral will be considered valid. Once they deposit money, you will automatically receive the $5 referral bonus.
